Throughout the movie it shows "Hallenbeck" and "Dix's" characters become friends in a way, the movie doesn't really show much of a character change other than "Hallenbeck's" alcoholism slowing down and this movie is meant to be a drama which most of the time feels more like an action film then a drama.
